Backers pledge to individual projects in exchange for rewards the creator sets — products, experiences, early access, or simply acknowledgment on donation-type campaigns. Projects run All-or-Nothing (funds released only if the goal is met) or All-In (funds released regardless), for 1–79 days (up to 59 days under All-or-Nothing). The minimum reward price is ¥500. Donation-type campaigns, available platform-wide, channel funds to eligible organizations only.
Offer for Fundraisers:
- Listing is free; CAMPFIRE charges only on funds actually raised, nothing if the campaign doesn’t go ahead.
- Standard reward-type fee is 17% of funds raised (12% service fee + 5% payment processing), deducted at payout.
- Each project gets a dedicated staff contact through setup and launch.
- Donation-type fundraising is limited to specific organization types (see Who Can Invest).
- Since 2011: 124,000+ projects hosted, ≈¥120 billion raised.
Backing is open to anyone, including backers outside Japan, though the site interface is Japanese-only. Launching a reward-type project requires being 18+ with a Japanese address, phone number, and a bank account in one’s own name; corporate fundraisers submit company information.
Donation-type fundraising is restricted to Japanese municipalities, public-interest corporations, social welfare corporations, certified NPOs, and school corporations.
Backers: No platform fee stated beyond the pledge amount and standard payment-processing charges.
Fundraisers: 17% of funds raised for reward-type campaigns (12% service fee + 5% payment processing), charged only on success. CAMPFIRE has periodically run fee-reduction or fee-waiver programs (e.g. for disaster-relief campaigns).
